Grossular
Obira-Kozan, Ogata, Bungo-Ono city, Oita pref., Japan
Field of view: 30 mm. A massive group of grossular. The reddish-brown parts are grossular, and the white parts are calcite. There are dodecahedral faces of grossular at the boundary between grossular and calcite.
Recovered from skarn formed by S-type (Ilmenite-series) granite of a caldera complex. Formed in the middle Miocene (14 Ma).
Garnet from this location was described in 1893.
