Grossular

Field of view: 50 mm. Grossular associated with calcite. The dodecahedral grayish-green crystals are grossular, and the surrounding white matrix is calcite.
Recovered from skarn formed by contact metamorphism of I-type (Magnetite-series) quartz diorite. Formed in the late Miocene (6 Ma).
Grossular from this location was described in 1918 as garnet and in 1930 as grossular.
