Schorl

Field of view: 5 mm. Schorl in an aplite vein. The black prisms vertical to the wall are schorl. The translucent white part at the lower left is quartz. The reddish-brown parts are limonite formed by oxidation of pyrite.
Recovered from a schorl vein in an aplite vein associated with I-type (Magnetite-series) quartz diorite. Formed in the late Miocene (6 Ma).
Schorl from this location was described in 1934.
