Pyrophanite
Konaka, Azuma village, Midori city, Gunma pref., Japan
Field of view: 3 mm. A crystal of pyrophanite. The hexagonal dakr red platy crystal with striations is pyrophanite. The transparent part at the base of pyrophanite is quartz.
Recovered from an open space of a chert-hosted bedded manganese deposit subjected to Hornblende-hornfels facies contact metamorphism by S-type (Ilmenite-series) granodiorite.
Pyrophanite from this location was described in 1962.
