Pyrophanite
Odaira, Tono village, Iwaki city, Fukushima pref., Japan

Field of view: 10 mm. Pyrophanite associated with rhodonite. The tabular reddish-brown crystals are pyrophanite. The massive pale pink parts around pyrophanite are aggregate of fine rhodochrosite crystals. The massive pink parts are aggregate of fine rhodonite crystals.
Recovered from a bedded manganese deposit subjected to Epidote-Amphibolite facies regional metamorphism and contact metamorphism by granite.
Pyrophanite from this location was described in 1979.
