Orthoclase

Width of the center crystal: 5 mm. Phenocrysts of orthoclase. The opaque white tabular crystals are orthoclase. The translucent gray grains are hexagonal bipyramidal crystals of Beta-quartz. The massive parts are a groundmass.
Recovered from a weathered surface of rhyolite erupted from a volcano of an island arc. Formed in the late Miocene (7 Ma).
Orthoclase from this location was described in 1979.
