Molybdenite-2H
Kami-Ono, Ono city, Fukui pref., Japan
Source for Molybdenum
Field of view: 50 mm. Molybdenite-2H associated with quartz. The silver parts with a metallic luster are molybdenite. The white parts are gangue quartz. The brown part at the bottom of the sample is granite encrusted with limonite. The thickness of the molybdenite-bearing quartz vein is approximately 10 mm.
Recovered from a quartz vein of a high-temperature hydrothermal deposit formed by quartz porphyry in granite. Formed in the early Eocene (54 Ma).
Molybdenite from this location was described in 1895.
