Chalcopyrite
Kyowa-Funaoka, Daisen city, Akita pref., Japan
Source for Copper
Field of view: 50 mm. Chalcopyrite associated with galena. The massive yellow parts are chalcopyrite. The massiv dark gray parts with a metallic luster are galena exhibiting perfect cleavage. The grayish-green host is weathered andesitic tuff encrusted with brown limonite at the top of the specimen.
Recovered from a moderate-temperature hydrothermal deposit in andesitic pyroclastics formed by dacite probably associated with a volcanic activity of a caldera. Formed in the Middle Miocene (15 Ma).
Chalcopyrite from this location was described in 1900.
