Bound water, Water of crystallization
H2O
Water in hydrated minerals are classified as follows;
- Coordinated water: Water acts as ligands in complex ion
- Anion water: Water combined with anion by hydrogen bond
- Lattice water: Water occupies a space in crystal lattice. Different from zeolitic water.
- Zeolitic water: A kind of lattice water. Crystal lattice is not changed by dehydration.
- Structured water: Water of hydroxide minerals that is easily dehydrated by heating.
- Opal water: Water absorbed in interstitial space of fine grains.
- Oxonium ion: Water act as cation, H3O+
For example, Alum-(K), Carnallite, Hexahydrite, Tamarugite includes coordinated water only,
Chalcanthite, Jôkokuite(Jokokuite) and Siderotil includes 4 coordinated water and 1 anion water,
Epsomite includes 6 coordinated water and 1 anion water,
Alunogen, Halotrichite and Pickeringite includes 6 coordinated water for 2 Al ions respectively and 5 anion water,
and Brucite includes structured water.
