Sphalerite
Ani-Kayakusa, Kita-Akita city, Akita pref., Japan
Source for Zinc, Cadmium, and Sulfuric acid.
Field of view: 30 mm. Sphelerite veins. The transparent brown veins exhibiting perfect cleavage are sphalerite. The surrounding massive green host is andesitic tuff subjected to chloritization alteration.
Recovered from a moderate-temperature hydrothermal deposit in andesitic pyroclastics formed by dacite probably associated with volcanic activity of a caldera. Formed in the middle Miocene (15 Ma).
Sphalerite from this location was described in 1968.
