Stromeyer (Germany) discovered in 1817.

Abundance: 0.16ppm(in the earth's crust)

Bake sphalerite and/or wurtzite with halite or evaporation residue of sea water.

Cd is inluded in zinc minerals with concentration of 0.3 to 0.5%.

Cd + 2NaCl + O2 Na2SO4 + CdCl2

Recover sublimated cadmium chloride.

CdCl2

Neutralize cadmium cholorite by base. Cadmium is never dissolved by base.

CdCl2 + 2NaOH Cd + 2NaCl + OH
