Manganosite
Hikoma, Sano city, Tochigi pref., Japan
Source for manganese
Field of view: 30 mm. Manganosite associated with hausmannite. The massive green spots are groups of fine manganosite crystals. The massive dark brown parts around manganosite are aggregate of fine hausmannite crystals. Manganosite is always included in hausmannite. The white to pale pink parts are rhodochrosite. The massive pale purple part in hausmannite at the lower right is fine aggregate of alleghanyite or sonolite. The black parts are crusts of manganese dioxide by weathering.
Recovered from a chert-hosted bedded manganese deposit subjected to weak Albite-Epidote facies contact metamorphism.
Manganosite from this location was described in 1982.
