Source for Zirconium
Field of view: 20 mm. A crystal of zircon. The short prismatic translucent dark brown crystal is zircon with a few crystal faces. The opaque pale brown parts are orthoclase or microcline colored by radioactivity. The massive dark gray part at the bottom of zircon is quartz colored by radioactivity.
Recovered from a beryl-columbite subtype rare-element pegmatite in S-type (Ilumenite-series) granite. Formed in the middle Paleocene (60 Ma).
Zircon from this location was described in 1948.
