Manganberzeliite
Odaira, Tono village, Iwaki city, Fukushima pref., Japan
Field of view: 50 mm. Manganberzeliite associated with rhodonite. The yellow to orange part at the front face of the specimen is manganberzeliite. The red host is rhodonite. The massive black parts at the left end are braunite. Manganberzeliite is distinguished from nambulite by exhibiting no cleavage, and from spessartine by lower hardness.
Recovered from a manganberzeliite vein in a bedded manganese deposit subjected to Epidote-Amphibolite facies regional metamorphism and contact metamorphism by granite.
The first manganberzeliite from Japan was reported from this location in 1975.
