Gersdorffite

Field of view: 3 mm. Gersdorffite associated with rhodonite. The dark gray grain with a metallic luster at the center is gersdorffite, and the points of the octahedral crystal were broken by cleavage. The pink parts of the surrounding host are rhodonite, and the transparent parts are quartz. The black crusts are dirt of manganese dioxide formed by weathering.
Recovered from a bedded manganese deposit in pelitic schist subjected to Amphibolite facies regional metamorphism and contact metamorphism by granodiorite.
Gersdorffite from this location was described in 1996.
