Cordierite
Motoisago, Kawasaki city, Shibata county, Miyagi pref., Japan
Field of view: 30 mm. Cordierite associated with quartz. The pale blue grains are cordierite. The opaque white grains are feldspar and the transparent gray grains are quartz. The black grains are cummingtonite.
Recovered from accidental lithic fragments subjected to hornblende-hornfels facies contact metamorphism. Formed in the late Pleistoene (70 ka).
Cordierite from this location was described in 1985.
