Augite

Yamakita city, Ashigara-Kami county, Kanagawa pref., Japan

Field of view: 20 mm. An augite phenocryst. The black crystal is augite. The surrounding host is andesite.

Recovered from an andesite dike intruded in trough-fill sediments.

Augite from this location was described in 1971 as pyroxene and in 1972 as augite.
