- [ Etymology ] Tehuacan valley in Mexico, a natural habitat of this species.
- A long columnar form rosette.
- The plant resembles Tillandsia makoyana and only the leaves and the rosette shape are different. Leaves of Tillandsia tehuacana are soft and the rosette shape is columnar, whereas leaves of Tillandsia makoyana are rigid and the rosette shape is funnel-shaped.
