- [ Etymology ] stramineus in Latin (straw-colored)
- Tillandsia straminea resembles Tillandsia purpurea. Primary bracts of Tillandsia straminea are yellow, whereas those of Tillandsia purpurea are dark yellow to purple. Tillandsia straminea is inland epiphytic species, whereas Tillandsia purpurea is coastal terrestrial/saxicolous species. Leaves pf Tillandsia purpurea are short and stiff, whereas those of Tillandsia straminea are long and lax.
