Tyrolite
Kakino, Yamagata city, Gifu pref., Japan
Field of view: 10 mm. Tyrolite associated with chalcopyrite. The fan-like groups of tabular bluish-green crystals with a vitreous luster are tyrolite. The white basement is calcite, and the brown parts are chalcopyrite encrusted with limonite.
Recovered from a meteoric oxidation zone of a moderately high-temperature hydrothermal deposit combined with skarn formed by contact metamorphism of I-type (Magnetite-series) granite associated with a caldera complex.
Tyrolite from this location was described in 1952.
