Sepiolite
Minamikawa, Hanno city, Saitama pref., Japan
Field of view: 5 mm. Sepiolite associated with calcite. The columnar group of the pale green fibers is sepiolite. The pale green color is due to Mn replacing Mg. The surrounding massive brown parts are aggregate of fine caryopilite and quartz crystals. The pale pink grain at the lower right is rhodochrosite.
Recovered from a sepiolite vein in a chert-hosted bedded manganese deposit subjected to Pumpellyite-Actinolite facies metamorphism.
Sepiolite from this location was described in 1982.
