Okenite
Nakadomari city, Kita-Tsugaru county, Aomori pref., Japan
Field of view: 50 mm. Okenite in a vesicule. The group of opaque white fibers is okenite. The green parts with a vitreous luster around okenite are apophyllite. Note that the inside surface of apophyllite is white. The transparent prisms with a vitreous luster at the top and at the right end are phillipsite-Ca. The phillipsite-Ca at the right end forms a radila group. The massive dark green parts at the top and at the bottom are the host basalt. Minerals formed in the following order from the host side: Phillipsite-Ca - apophyllite(Green) - apophyllite(White) - Okenite. The distribution of phillipsite-Ca is not uniform.
Recovered from vesicules of a pillow lava, a basalt lava erupted under the sea.
Okenite from this location was described in 1984.
