Magnesite
Araya, Aga city, Higashi-Kambara county, Niigata pref., Japan
Field of view: 20 mm. Magnesite crystals in an open space of a quartz vein. The rhombohedral translucent white crystals are magnesite. The transparent brown crystals perched on magnesite are hexagonal tabular siderite. The opaque white basement is gangue quartz.
Recovered from an open space of a quartz vein of a moderate-temperature hydrothermal deposit associated with rhyolite. Formed in the early Miocene (21 Ma).
Magnesite from this location was described in 1953.
