Clintonite
Otaki, Chichibu city, Saitama pref., Japan
Field of view: 1 mm. A crystal of clintonite. The hexagonal transparent crystal at the center is clintonite. The green grains are epidote, and the brown grains are grossular. The opaque white parts are calcite.
Recovered from an open space of skarn formed by contact metamorphism of I-type (Magnetite-series) quartz diorite. Formed in the late Miocene (6 Ma).
The first clintonite from Japan was reported as xanthophyllite from this location in 1930.
