Amber
Biological Process
Required Geological Setting
Neogene and Quaternary sediments, Paleogene and older sediments
Occurrence
Amber, a kind of fossil of resins associated with coal. As amber is subjected to enough diagenesis in sediments older than Neogene, it contains large amount of succinic acid. Copal is easily weathered in the air to be clouded or powdered. Amber is observed on the coal of tree trunks and branches, and also in the same stratigraphic horizons of coal. Amber also drifts with the wave at seashores near outcrops producing it.
