Life cycle of Tillandsia

Blooming

Tube flower is usually purple, but there are also various color of flower: white, green, red, pink, and so on.

Seed Capsule

After blooming, seed-capsule is made. Tillandsia does selfing and makes seeds easily. It also makes hybrid easily.

Flower Spike

Some grow flower in the center of foliage, some grow a single spike, and others grow branched flower spikes.

Pup

After blooming, it usually grows a few pups. Pup grows pretty faster than those from seeds. Some species pups a lot without blooming.

Opening Capsule

Seeds are scattered by opening seed capsule.

Blooming Blush

Some of them blush when in bloom. Some have always reddish leaves. Red color is brighter under the strong suh light.

Foliage

Matured foliage is 5 mm to 1 m wide depending on species. Tillandsia is roughly classified into 3 types by leaves: Silver type is rich in trichomes, semi-silver type has some trichomes, and green type has no trichomes. Some green type is rich in trichomes when they are young.
