- [ Etymology ] sphaericus + cephalatus in Latin (rounded + head)
- The rosette is composed of dark green leaves showing a metallic luster.
- It resembles Tillandsia schreiteri. Flowers of Tillandsia sphaerocephala are violet, whereas those of Tillandsia schreiteri are white.
