There is no inflorescence and flowers grow directly at the growing point of the foliage. The flowers grows between the leaves of the growing point. Flowers of the similar species T. velutina grow from a stout inflorescence.

The left foliage is T. velutina and the right foliage is T. brachycaulos. Note the difference of the inflorescence.
