Volcanoes of Volcanic Island Arcs

Overview

Volcanoes in volcanic island arcs formed by subduction of ocean plates under the east margin of the Eurasian continent. These are mainly composed of calc-alkaline rocks and tholiitic rocks.

Volcanoes of volcanic island arcs

Volcanoes along volcanic fronts at continental sides of boundaries between continental plates (the North American plate and the Eurasian plate) and oceanic plates. There are two volcanic fronts: a volcanic front formed by subduction of the Pacific plate and a volcanic front by subduction of the Philippine sea plate. There is also a triple junction of plates, the Eurasian plate, the Pacific plate, and the Philippine sea plate.
