Submarine landslide

Depth of water

Shelf edge - Abyssal plain (120 - 5,000 m)

Circumstances

The submarine landslides deposit on the forearc basins, trench slopes and trenches, and abyssal plain. The submarine landslides happen by earthquakes, for example. Huge blocks in accretionary complexes are considered as large scale landslide deposits at the trench slopes, and are called olistostrome. Olistostrome may be more than a few km long.

Sedimentary facies (Sediments)

Sediments on continental shelves, forearc basins, and abyssal plain.

Sedimentary facies (Structures)
