Field of view: 30 mm. A crystal of titanite. The tabular yellowish-brown crystal is titanite. The surrounding white parts exhibiting perfect cleavage are plagioclase. The dark green part at the upper left is diopside. The host, the Inishi-type migmatite, is composed of diopside and plagioclase.
Recovered from migmatite formed by partial melting of amphibolite or pyroxene gneiss. Formed in the early Paleocene (65 Ma).
The first titanite from Japan was reported from this location in 1915.
