Siderite
Higashi-Akatani, Shibata city, Niigata pref., Japan
Field of view: 40 mm. A group of siderite. The rhombohedral reddish-brown crystals are siderite. The white parts are calcite. The brown beds in calcite are also siderite.
Recovered from an open space of a siderite vein in a moderate-temperature hydrothermal deposit and an oxidative metazomatic zone combined with skarn formed by contact metamorphism of S-type (Ilmenite-series) granodiorite. Formed in the early Miocene (21 Ma).
Siderite from this location was described in 1916.
