Babingtonite

Field of view: 10 mm. Babingtonite associated with hedenbergite. The granular black babingtonite are in white calcite. Calcite is aggregate of coarse white grains with perfect cleavage. The dark green part at the left is the host hedenbergite. Babingtonite grains are at the boundary between the calcite vein and the hedenbergite.
Recovered from a calcite vein of skarn formed by contact metamorphism of S-type (Ilmenite-series) granite.
Babingtonite from this location was described in 1975.
