Anglesite
Araya, Aga city, Higashi-Kambara county, Niigata pref., Japan
Field of view: 5 mm. Anglesite associated with galena. The fine white grains are anglesite. The brown basement is a limonite crust on galena. This photograph is the magnified image of the specimen below.
Recovered from a meteoric oxidation zone of a moderate-temperature hydrothermal deposit associated with rhyolite. Formed in less than 50 years after the mine was closed,
Anglesite from this location was described in 1933.
It is considered that anglesite was formed by oxidation of galena. For example:
PbS (Galena) + 2O2 = PbSO4 (Anglesite)
Field of view: 100 mm. Anglesite associated with galena. The fine white grains on the surface are anglesite.
