Andradite

Field of view: 30 mm. Andradite associated with magnetite. The dodecahedral grayish-green crystals are andradite. The fine black grains in the interstices of andradite are magnetite.
Recovered from a moderately low-temperature hydrothermal deposit combined with skarn formed by contact metamorphism of I-type (magnetite-series) quartz diorite. Formed in the late Miocene (6 Ma).
Andradite from this location was described in 1918 as garnet and in 1930 as andradite.
