Vesuvianite

Field of view: 30 mm. A group of vesuvianite. The transparent brown crystals with a vitreous luster are vesuvianite. Striations are clearly observed. There are termination faces vertical to the prism at the bottom, for example.

Recovered from an open space of skarn formed by contact metamorphism of S-type (Ilmenite-series) diorite. Formed in the late Miocene (11 Ma).

Vesuvianite from this location was described in 1965.
