Axinite-(Fe)
Obira-Kozan, Ogata, Bungo-Ono city, Oita pref., Japan
Field of view: 50 mm. A group of axinite-(Fe). The tabular brown crystals are axinite-(Fe) forming an axinite-unique curved radial group. A part of axinite is Mn-rich axinite-(Mn).
Recovered from an open space of a pneumatolytic deposit combined with skarn formed by S-type (Ilmenite-series) granite of a caldera complex Formed in the middle Miocene (14 Ma).
The first axinite from Japan was reported from this location in 1885, and axinite from this location was designated the prefectural mineral of Oita in 2016 by the Geological Society of Japan.
