- [ Etymology ] Ms. Roxana Stinchfield Ferris (1895 - 1978), who collected the first specimen of this species
- A small plant having rigid and long twisted leaves.
- The plant resembles Tillandsia schiedeana but the petals of Tillandsia ferrisiana are pink. The scape is shorter, and the floral bracts and sepals are covered with trichomes.
