Fluvial levee

Circumstances

Elavations between the flurival channels and back marshes in the flood plain. Levees are formed by deposition of coarse sediments supplied by flood water to the both sides of flurival channels Levees formed under the sea are known as submarine levees.

Sedimentary facies (Sediments)

Sands dominated interbedded sands and mud. Mud is more dominated depending on the distance from the flurival channels.

Sedimentary facies (Structures)

Crevasse-splay, reversely graded sandstone on mud bed. Crevasse-splay is formed the following process: Water including only mud is supplied flood over the fluvial levees at the beginning. Then coarser sediments are supplied along with breaking the levees. Ater the peak, suspended mud and fine particles go back to the fluvial channel with water. As a result, only coarse substances remain at the top of the sediments.
