• Class: Sulfate - Hydroxide
• Soluble in: HCl, dilute H₂SO₄
• Formed by alteration of Linarite.
• Substitution pseudomorph: Replaced by Cuprite.
• Formed at higher temperature, 60-80 degree, than Brochantite. Less stable at ambient condition than Brochantite.
• Formed at pH 4.0-5.0. Chalcanthite is stable less than pH 4.0 and Brochantite is stable more than pH 5.0.
• Chalcocite is formed at the more reductive condition.

• Streak: Pale green
• Luster: Vitreous
• Diaphaneity: Translucent

• Cleavage: Perfect on {010} (1 plane), Indistinct on {100} (1 plane)
• Hardness: 3.5
• Density: 3.9
