Hemipelagic

Depth of water

Bathypelagic - Abyssopelagic (2,000 - 6,000 m)

Circumstances

Ocean floors near continents comparing to pelagic. Fine terrestrial clastic particles are mainly supplied. Mud originated from continents is dominant than the calcareous and siliceous sediments from oceanic planktons. The deposition rate of hemipelagic sediments is 50 - 2,000 mm per 1,000 years, which is faster enough than that of calcaeous sediments, 0.5 - 60 mm per 1,000 years and that of siliceous sediments, 1 - 10 mm per 1,000 years.

Sedimentary facies (Sediments)

Siliceous sediments such as siliceous mudstone and siliceous shale.
